Installation and setup

The installation and setup of !MC5 is very simple and can be done in just a few steps. Depending on whether you want to test a demo version, register a license or move with an installation, only a few steps are needed to make !MC5 ready for use.

Requirements

What are the system requirements to use !MC5?

!MC5 is a very resource-saving software and can usually be run on any common Windows system. Read more about this in the chapter System Requirements.

To use it as a system for Managed File Transfer (MFT), online license checking and updates, your network must meet a few requirements. A description of this can be found in the chapter Network Settings and Required Ports.

Installation

You want to install a demo version to test !MC5

With a demo license you can test !MC5 extensively for 3 weeks. You can decide during the installation which features you are interested in. You can get a demo version in two steps:

1.You request a demo license. Follow the instructions in the chapter Installing a demo version.

2.Once you have received an email with your license key, activate !MC5 as described in Activating a demo version.

You have purchased !MC5 and received a license key via e-mail

Just follow the instructions in chapter Installation with license key.

You have tested !MC5 with a demo license and now you want to work with !MC5 permanently.

In this case you do not need to change anything in your installation. All settings you have already made will be kept. So you can switch from the test mode to the normal working mode without any transition. The change of your demo license into a permanent license is done exclusively in our registration server.

System migration, system upgrade and registration with backup

You want to move your !MC5 installation from one system to another system

If you plan to change your system due to a PC replacement or relocation of the !MC5 workstation to another department, follow the instructions in Migrate Installation.

You want to perform a re-registration and import a backup

If your current system is no longer working properly and therefore a migration cannot be performed, you can still perform a fresh installation. To do this, you need a backup that is as recent as possible. Then proceed as described in Migrating an Installation from step 8.

You are still using a !MC5 predecessor version and want to switch to the current version of !MC5

The upgrade from a previous system like Odette 95 (version 2.x) , Odette 95 MC (version 3.x), EDI-Standalone or Odette MC (version 4.x) to !MC5 is described in chapter Upgrade from Odette 95 / MC or EDI-Standalone.

Setup of your !MC5 version

After !MC5 has been successfully installed and activated with a demo or a permanent license, the system must be set up for operation. Which steps are necessary depends mainly on the usage of the !MC5 and the licensed modules.

Data transmission
A number of protocols(AS2, FTP, OFTP, SFTP, EP Scripting ) are available for data transfer. In the corresponding chapters you will find hints for the configuration.

Partner management
For a data transfer with your business partners you have to configure them in the partner administration for the respective transfer protocols(AS2 partner, FTP partner, OFTP-ISDN partner, OFTP-TCP partner, OFTP2 partner, SFTP partner, EP Scripting partner ).

!MC5 as service in background without user login
This operating mode offers some advantages regarding resource consumption and operational security of your system. You can find more information under Windows Service.

Decentralized operation of !MC5 in your local network
Many functions of !MC5 can be controlled and monitored decentralized. These add-ons(Client/Server, HTTP Client) make your installation even more flexible,
