First, customize the name of the partner. Use a name that is as meaningful as possible. This partner name will be used in all other places in !MC5 where a partner has to be selected or set. Then enter the AS2 identifier of the partner in the AS2 identifier field. This should have been given to you by your partner.

Now adjust the directories for incoming and outgoing files, if necessary. The inbound directory stores files received from this partner, the outbound directory stores files to be sent to the partner. If data is only received from this partner, then jump directly to step 6.

If data is to be actively sent to this partner, then switch to the Sending page. Enter in the Host / URL field  the complete address including path, protocol and port, under which the AS2 system of the partner can be reached. If no protocol(http:// or https://) is specified, then !MC5 always uses an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Your partner should have given you the corresponding address.

Now open the Security page. Depending on the connection settings and activated message settings, at least one certificate must be stored for the partner. Add the required certificates under Certificates via the Add certificate button. At least one certificate is always required if the data transfer with the partner runs over an encrypted connection via HTTPS, messages are encrypted or signed or MDNs are signed. !MC5 accepts incoming connections encrypted only. A partner certificate must be stored here if the Require certificate from clients option  is enabled. To add a certificate there are several options to choose from. You can import the public certificate of your partner from a file,  select  it from the Windows certificate store Trusted People if it is already stored there. Additionally !MC5 can try to fetch the certificate of the partner by trying to establish a direct connection to it. With this attempt, the remote peer transmits its certificate, which can then be stored for this partner. With this method, check very carefully whether the certificate received is trustworthy before accepting it!

Select the associated purposes for each certificate. In most cases, only one certificate is used for all purposes. However, depending on the partner, multiple certificates may be used for different purposes.

Apply the changed settings by clicking OK. You can now exchange data via AS2 with the new partner.
